1. Information We Collect

Hone is a local-first app — all your data is stored on your device using SQLite. We do not operate user accounts or a central database. The following data exists only on your device:

  • Your name (entered during setup)
  • Journal messages and conversation history
  • Goals, tasks, and habit tracking data
  • Mood and performance data derived from your journal entries
  • Photos you attach to journal entries (stored in Cloudflare R2, linked from your device)
  • Push notification token (to deliver reminders you schedule)

2. Third-Party AI Service (Google Gemini)

Hone uses Google Gemini, a third-party AI service operated by Google LLC, to power the journal coach, plan generator, and audio transcription features.

When you use these features, the following data is transmitted to Google Gemini:

  • Your journal messages and recent conversation history
  • Your goals and the answers you provide during setup
  • Photos you attach to journal entries

This data is sent solely to generate AI responses and is not used to train Google's models without your separate consent under Google's own policies. You are asked to consent to this data sharing before any AI features are used. You may decline, in which case AI features will not be available.

Google's privacy practices are governed by the Google Privacy Policy and the Gemini API Terms of Service.

3. Other Third-Party Services

  • Cloudflare R2 — stores photos you attach to journal entries. Images are accessible only via a private URL stored on your device.
  • RevenueCat — manages in-app subscription purchases. RevenueCat may collect purchase and device identifiers as described in their privacy policy.
  • Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) — delivers reminders you schedule in the app.

4. How We Use Your Information

Data is used only to provide the app's features:

  • AI responses are generated from your journal content and goals
  • Push tokens are used solely to deliver reminders you configure
  • Uploaded images are stored and served back to your device

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with any party beyond those listed above.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Because data is stored locally on your device, you control it entirely. You can export or delete all app data at any time from the Settings screen within the app. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data. Uploaded images on Cloudflare R2 are deleted when you remove them from the app.

6. Children's Privacy

Hone is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
